The 2024 dataset has seen an increase in string- (+13% since 2023) and combiner-level (+22%) anomalies, constituting around 36% of total observed DC capacity loss in 2024.

The Raptor Maps dataset also observed variability in drivers of loss across different power markets and different site capacities (by MWdc).

Severe weather continues to be an important risk for asset owners to manage, with the % of hail storms with 2 inch-plus hail stones growing by 3.1% per year in the past 25 years.

The average hail stone diameter has also grown in the same time period, from 1.09 to 1.31 inches, with studies increasingly linking the growing size of hail stones to climate change.
